Open Access Journals

Perhaps we should really consider publishing in open access journals?  Why?  Some reasons:


  • We will get more citations.
  • We will own the copyright to our own research/article.
  • That article will be peer-reviewed and published faster.
  • Anyone can download and read and open access articles at no cost.  Thus, the article will be read by far more people (scientists and non-scientists alike) when compared to publishing in a traditional (paid) subscription journal.

See the Directory of Open Access Journals which aims to "increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact".  For example, in "neuroscience":
